What is the Dartmoor Tor Enclosures Survey?
Dartmoor Tor Enclosures Survey (DATES) is a research project led by the University of Leicester in collaboration with Dartmoor National Park Authority and involves specialists from University of Bristol and Queen’s University Belfast. The 2019 - 2020 pilot project is funded by the Society of Antiquaries, but overall is envisaged as the first stage in a longer term programme of research and public engagement looking at Tor Enclosures in the South West of England. The project involves the application of cutting edge survey techniques to the prehistoric sites of White Tor Camp (known locally as “Whittor”), Dewerstone and a newly identified site on private land.
